What Is Regenerative Stem Cell Therapy?

Regenerative stem cell therapy belongs to a group of translational research. Its purpose is to help patients manage or remove chronic pain and the conditions that cause the pain. The research revolves around engineering human tissue on a molecular level with the goal of creating an environment that allows for the regeneration of human cells.

Its goal is to either restore your body to its normal physiological function, or in the case of congenital defects, establish normal physiological functioning in the affected part of the body.

This science is based on research that began in the early 1960’s. At that time tissue engineering was used to create synthetic skin for grafting procedures. Every year this field of medicine is growing, offering increased benefits to chronic pain sufferers.

Many chronic pain sufferers hurt because of a physical injury or a deformity. Not only does the injury or deformity cause pain, but it also affects an individual’s ability to function and to carry out everyday job responsibilities.

100 million adults in the United States

The majority of chronic pain in the United States is the result of a musculoskeletal injury stemming from trauma, disease, or illness. It is estimated that more than 100 million adults in the United States deal with some form of back pain throughout the year. And for many of these individuals, their back pain gradually goes from being acute to chronic.

Regenerative stem cell therapy is a field of medicine that is continually growing. For this reason, it is not appropriate for every instance of pain. But since this field of medicine has grown drastically in the past 50 years, it is an appropriate pain management treatment for many circumstances. Regenerative stem cell therapy has created an alliance between professional chemists, doctors, robotics engineers, biologists, computer scientists, and geneticists. They are working together to construct biologically compatible structures for the different tissues found in the body.

The end goal is to create biologically sound substitutes for damaged body parts with the goal of improving the function of the body part, removing the pain, and restoring lost tissue.

Since this field of medicine is new, there are a lot of doubts and misconceptions about it that have caused some to shy away from it. For example, some mistakenly believe that this field of medicine always use stem cells, which is not the case. Another misconception is that every regenerative medicine procedure require surgery. The truth is that technological advancements have led to the creation of new processes that allow regenerative medical procedures to be performed without requiring an operation.

A good portion of these procedures are minimally invasive, and this makes these therapies an excellent pain treatment. Some of the medical procedures that have been performed using regenerative medicine include but are not limited to:

  • Reversing Arthritic Body Changes
  • Fixing Injuries to Cartilage
  • Repairing Tendons
  • Repairing Muscles
  • Repairing Bone
  • Repairing Spinal Discs

All of these procedures have the goal of reducing a patient’s pain and returning them to living a productive, happy life.
