His specialties encompass all aspects of pain management including neurostimulation implants, intrathecal pain pump implants and Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression (MILD).
Dr. Howard received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Syracuse University in New York, and his Doctor of Medicine from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Piscataway, N.J. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Hospital Medical Center in Bronx, N.Y., and his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
After a rotation in Pain Medicine, he quickly realized this was the path he wanted to follow. After working in both fields, he made the switch permanent. “It’s a more cognitive puzzle to figure out pain. I enjoy talking to patients as opposed to putting them to sleep. It’s a different clinical experience,” he says. “And it’s gratifying to be able to help people regain a better quality of life.”
Before joining Physician Partners of America, Dr. Howard worked in leadership positions at various pain medicine practices in Colorado and Illinois. These include serving as medical director of Colorado Springs Pain Relief Center and Advanced Pain Management of Illinois. He also served as a faculty instructor at the University of Illinois School of Medicine in Peoria.
Dr. Howard is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
He has a grown daughter with a thriving music career and a grown son who devotes his life to marine ecology. In his spare time, Dr. Howard is passionate about cycling.
